Education has undergone significant transformations over time, shifting from a traditional approach to a more constructivist practice characterized by placing the student as the central participant in their own learning through active methodologies. However, despite the great importance of modifying the way we reach students with resources and strategies that adapt to their interests and needs, there remains a gap between theory and practice in the classroom. This is evidenced by the continued prevalence of traditional methodologies, which are still the most commonly used. From the constructivist perspective, a range of methodologies is proposed to address the diversity within the educational community, taking into account individual characteristics and learning styles, and responding to major challenges within the educational system.
Therefore, the use of active methodologies constitutes a fundamental basis for the development of communication, mathematical, digital, and socio-emotional competencies. This study aims to analyze the impact of active methodologies on the development of student competencies, using a qualitative research paradigm based on participant observation, document analysis, interviews, and data triangulation. The results show that strategies such as gamification, project-based learning, and collaborative learning enhance active participation, autonomy, and critical thinking. Additionally, an increase in student motivation and meaningful learning was identified. In conclusion, active methodologies are an essential means for holistic education, fostering transversal competencies that are crucial for academic and social performance.
