Improvement of Occupational Health and Safety as a Social Problem

The present study addresses the impact of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) on reducing social and economic inequalities. The main objective is to establish how improving OSH can contribute to the prevention of occupational diseases and workplace accidents, promoting equity and workers' well-being. To achieve this, a qualitative approach was applied through a bibliographic review analyzing academic research and documents from international organizations such as the ILO (International Labour Organization), WHO (World Health Organization), and EU-OSHA (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work). The results show significant differences in working conditions across various regions worldwide, with particularly high rates of occupational mortality and diseases in Africa and Southeast Asia. The lack of workplace safety, insufficient regulations, and limited access to specialized medical services further exacerbate these inequalities. Therefore, it is concluded that improving OSH not only prevents occupational risks but also strengthens global economic stability, reduces pressure on public health systems, and promotes social inclusion.
